Human Caucasian pancreatic carcinoma

Cell Line Description

An established cell line from an undifferentiated human pancreatic carcinoma. The tumour was taken from a 65 year old Caucasian male. The cells are large with abundant cytoplasm, exhibit a high degree of aneuploidy, have a tendency to grow on top of other cells, eventually growing free in suspension. Sensitive to L-Asparaginase.

Application

MIA-Pa-Ca-2 has been used for the assessment of thyroid receptor transcriptional activity and for α-enolase immunostaining.

Culture Medium

DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-3x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
