Useful as an indicator for preparing neutral red paper, and as a biological stain.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Neutral red is useful as an indicator for preparing neutral red paper, and as a biological stain. Neutral dye has low toxicity and is a vital dye. It can also be used as a pH indicator. It is used for cell viability assay. The dye accumulates in the lysosomes of living healthy cells, but not in damaged cells.
