General description
Method: Colorimetric, with test strips and reagent, 3 - 10 - 30 - 100 mg/L (CrO42-), MQuant®
The MQuant® Chromate test includes test strips and all necessary addidtional reagents. It can be used to monitor waste water discharged from electroplating and pickling plants, in cement and for rapidly and reliably determining of chromium(VI) salts. In weakly phosphoric solution chromium(VI) ions react with diphenylcarbazide to form chromium(III) and diphenylcarbazone, which form a red-violet complex. The concentration of chromate is measured semi-quantitatively by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the fields of a color scale. The test strips are perfect for pre-testing a sample in an economic and quick way to estimate the chromate concentration and a possible dilution factor prior to using a quantitative method such as a Spectroquant® portfolio.
Design for sustainability benefits:
We continue to demonstrate our commitment to our planet and a sustainable future by exploring ways to improve existing products in our portfolio. We have recently reviewed the current line of MQuant® test strips to identify key opportunities to minimize impact without compromising on the product performance.
This product has benefited from:
- Test strip with reduction
- Recycled aluminum tube
- Digital instruction leaflet

Application
- Environmental Monitoring: Chromate tests are essential for monitoring chromium(VI) levels in water and soil. These tests help in assessing environmental pollution caused by industrial discharge and are crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Recent research has focused on the simultaneous extraction of phosphate and chromate using nano mixed (Al-Fe-Zr) oxide adsorbents, demonstrating enhanced sensitivity and accuracy in detecting chromate contamination in water (Pala et al., International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 2021).
