General description

Monolysocardiolipin (MLCL) is a class of phospholipid related to cardiolipin. MLCL is a triacylated phospholipid, uncommon in bacterial or eukaryotic membranes. MLCL is prepared from cardiolipin by the hydrolysis action of phospholipase A2 (PLA2).

Application

Monolyso Heart CA is suitable for use:
  • as substrate for the synthesis of cardiolipin by the enzyme acyl-CoA:lysocardiolipin acyltransferase (ACLAT1)
  • as substrate for the assay of mitochondrial monolysocardiolipin acyltransferase (MLCL AT) activity
  • in the preparation of affinity resin MLCL-adriamycin-agarose for the purification of MLCL AT

Biochem/physiol Actions

Monolysocardiolipin (MLCL) is a substrate for the biosynthesis of cardiolipin in heart by the activity of MLCL acyltransferase. MLCL is a marker for Barth syndrome. MLCL is implicated in apoptosis.
