General description

HEPES (4-(2-Hydroxyethyl)piperazine-1-ethanesulfonic acid) is a widely used Good’s buffer in biochemical and biological research applications. As a zwitterionic buffer, it stabilizes the pH of the solution even when small amounts of acid or base are added.

Application

HEPES potassium salt has been used as a buffering agent in nanopore fabrication and electrolyte preparations. It has also been used as a component of cell lysis buffer.
