General description

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is an important metabolic product of trichloroethylene (TCE) metabolism.

Application

Trichloroacetic acid has been used:
  • for protein precipitation
  • as a component in the extract solution used for the measurement of malondialdehyde and glutathione
  • to precipitate the transfected and treated cells in [3H]-thymidine incorporation assay

Traditionally used to precipitate protein. Has been used to determine protein concentration by quantitative precipitation. Used as decalcifier and fixative in microscopy.

Biochem/physiol Actions

TCA might act as a carcinogen, targeting liver. It might be used as an acid decalcifying agent. TCA helps in nuclear staining.
