General description

Rappaport-Vassiliadis Broth, also known as RV Broth or RVS Broth, is a selective enrichment medium used in the detection and isolation of Salmonella species from a variety of samples, including food and environmental specimens. RV Broth is composed of a highly concentrated base of magnesium chloride, which inhibits many bacteria and allows for selective growth of Salmonella. The broth also contains malachite green, which further prevents the growth of non-Salmonella organisms and enhances the detection of Salmonella colonies that produce hydrogen sulfide. RV Broth is often used in combination with other media and methods for the culture, isolation, and identification of Salmonella in food and environmental samples as part of surveillance and monitoring programs for food safety.

Application

Rappaport-Vassiliadis Broth (RV Broth) is used for the detection and isolation of Salmonella species from food and environmental samples. It is particularly useful for samples that are potentially contaminated with high levels of other bacterial species, as RV Broth is designed to inhibit the growth of most bacteria while promoting the growth of Salmonella. It is a widely used method for Salmonella detection and is an important tool for food safety testing and environmental monitoring programs.

Features and Benefits

Our Granulated media are:
  • Safer - Significant reduction of inhalation of toxic and allergenic substances resulting in fewer allergic responses. Less contamination of working tools and environment
  • Accurate - No separation of components and no clumping, even under humid or warm conditions, ensure a uniform product with higher performance accuracy
  • Fast - Rapid and uniform dissolution in water
  • Easier - Easier handling and weighing due to the better flow properties. Media do not stick to the flask or container
  • Reliable - Homogenous distribution of ingredients guarantees high reproducibility even if only small amounts of media are used.

Footnote

We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs.
The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.
