General description

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a a natural polymer found in many extracellular matrices (ECM). Its biocompatibility, biodegradability, and biomimetic chacteristics make it one of the most advantagous biopolymers for myriad of biomedical applications including drug delivery, tissue engineering, hydrogel development, cosmetics, regenerative medicine and 3D bioprinting.
Unlike other HA products which are typically available in a sodium salt form, HA acid form is soluble in organic solvents such as DMSO. This allows for a larger range of possible chemical modifications and functionalization. For instance, the carboxylic acid of the glucoronic acid can be modified or functionalized with hydrazine end groups.

Application

  • Tissue engineering including cartilage tissue engineering, bone tissue engineering, and other musculoskeletal tissues
  • Drug delivery and a carrier of small molecules, large molecules, and biomolecules
  • Biosensors, films and transdermal microneedles development
  • Medical device coatings, wound healing, and cosmetics

Features and Benefits

  • The same advantages of HA but in acid form
  • Soluble in organic solvents such as DMSO
  • Larger range of chemical modifications and functionalization possibilities
