There are more than 140 million contact lens users worldwide, and that number is expected to grow further with planned improvements in the design of contact lens materials that extend into diagnostic and therapeutic applications. However, an increased incidence of associated ocular infections still limits their use. I work to develop advanced medicated contact lenses that are resistant to biofilm formation. These advanced lenses are aiming to improve vision while treating different ocular pathologies to significantly increase the quality of life of people of all ages.

It is crucial to look beyond conventional contact lenses and be open to new collaborations. I often look towards biomaterials from different fields and investigate how to adapt them for ocular use. I am also inspired by other incredible senior scientists working in ocular drug delivery, such as Professor Laura Ensign and Professor Carmen Alvarez-Lorenzo.
