General description

16:0-17:0 cyclo PC or 1-palmitoyl-2-cis-9,10-methylenehexadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is a cyclopropane modified analog of PC. It is a glycerophospholipid and is the most important constituent of the eukaryotic cell membrane. Generally, it constitutes up to 40-50% of the cells and organelles.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is crucial for the synthesis of second messengers and lipid mediators. It also acts as an intermediate for the synthesis of other glycerophospholipid classes along with phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). Any disturbance in PC levels leads to various metabolic disorders.

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a major component of eukaryotic cell membranes and one of the most commonly used phospholipids for reconstitution of membrane proteins into carrier systems such as lipid vesicles, micelles and nanodiscs. Selectively deuterated versions of this lipid have

Most common sphingolipids are comprised of "typical" sphingoid bases (sphinganine, sphingosine, and structurally related compounds) and are produced via the condensation of l-serine with a fatty acyl-CoA by serine palmitoyltransferase. Some organisms, including mammals, also produce "atypical" sphingoid bases that

Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylcholine (PC) are among the most abundant phospholipids in biological membranes. In many eukaryotes, the CDP-ethanolamine and CDP-choline branches of the Kennedy pathway represent major and often essential routes for the production of PE and PC, with
