General description

Glycerol dimethacrylate, mixture of isomers (GDMA), belongs to the class of monomers known as dimethacrylates. It is commonly used as a cross-linking agent in the formulation of polymer materials to improve the mechanical strength, durability, and dimensional stability of the polymers. Its favorable properties make it well-suited for formulating dental composites and adhesives. It is also used in various applications which include, optical materials, photolithography, opthalmic applications, plasticizers, resins, coatings, and paints.

Application

GDMA can be used in the following applications:
  • Used as a diluent in the development of new dental resinous systems. It is used to form highly crosslinked polymer networks, which are essential for providing composites with high stiffness, hardness, and durability.
  • Used to prepare polymer matrix, along with other methacrylate monomers such as diurethanedimethacrylate (DUDMA) and urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) for the development of 3D-printable antimicrobial composite materials for various applications, including dentistry.
  • Used in the synthesis of highly cross-linked microbeads with thermoresponsive properties. The presence of GDMA contributes to the cross-linking of the polymeric structure. Thermoresponsive microbeads have potential applications in the biomedical field, such as drug delivery systems or tissue engineering.
