Gene Information

human ... AKT1(207)

General description

AKT serine/threonine kinase 1 (AKT1) also called as v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1 or protein kinase B α (PKB α) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 14q32. It is highly expressed in liver, muscle and adipocytes. The encoded protein is a member of AKT family, which is characterized with an amino-terminal pleckstrin homology (PH) domain, a short α-helical linker and a carboxyl-terminal kinase domain.

Specificity

The antibody detects endogenous levels of total pan-AKT protein.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide corresponding to a region derived from internal residues of human RAC-alpha serine/threonine-protein kinase

Application

Anti-pan-AKT antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

AKT serine/threonine kinase 1 (AKT1) acts as a regulator for cell-survival and anti-apoptotic actions which are involved in development of various cancers. This protein has a crucial role in tumorigenesis. In mice, AKT1 is essential for normal development. Mutations in the gene are associated with the pathogenesis of prostate cancer (PC). Elevated expression of the gene has been observed in human gastric cancer. Aberrations in the AKT1 and glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3)-β signaling leads to the development of schizophrenia.
