El yoduro de propidio (PI) es un colorante fluorescente quepuede utilizarse para teñir los ácidos nucleicos. Es impermeable en células viables ointactas. Puede penetrar fácilmente en células muertas o moribundas o con la integridad de la membrana afectada. El PI tiene la capacidad de unirse fácilmente al ADN.
