Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin-1 (IL-1), originally known as Lymphocyte Activating Factor (LA F), activates T cells and lymphocytes, which then proliferate and secrete Interleukin-2 (IL-2). The proliferative activity of human IL-1α is tested in culture using the murine cell line D10S.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.2 μm filtered phosphate buffered saline containing 0.25 mg of bovine serum albumin.

Analysis Note

The biological activity of recombinant rat IL-1α was measured by its ability to stimulate cell proliferation using a mouse helper T cell line, D10.G4.1.

Neurotoxic microglia and astrocytes begin to activate and participate in pathological processes after spinal cord injury (SCI), subsequently causing severe secondary damage and affecting tissue repair. We have previously reported that photobiomodulation (PBM) can promote functional recovery by reducing neuroinflammation

A cDNA sequence coding for rat interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1 alpha) has been isolated from a cDNA library that was prepared with mRNA derived from LPS-stimulated rat peritoneal macrophages by using human IL-1 alpha cDNA as a probe. The rat cDNA

Astrocytes are key players in CNS neuroinflammation and neuroregeneration that may help or hinder recovery, depending on the context of the injury. Although pro-inflammatory factors that promote astrocyte-mediated neurotoxicity have been shown to be secreted by reactive microglia, anti-inflammatory factors

Given the critical roles of astrocytes in neuroinflammation and neurological diseases, models for studying human astrocyte biology are in increasing demand. Here, we present a protocol to isolate human astrocytes from induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-based cultures, neural organoids, and

Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease that features the death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in the retina, often as a result of prolonged increases in intraocular pressure. We show that preventing the formation of neuroinflammatory reactive astrocytes prevents the death

The Interleukins comprise a disparate group of cytokines and growth factors that are produced by and released from leukocytes. Interleukin-1β (1L-1β) is released primarily from stimulated macrophages and monocytes and plays a key role in inflammatory and immune responses and may induce anti-tumor immunity.
