Fish Northern Pike ovaries

Cell Line Description

The fish cell line PG has been initiated 1976 from ovarian tissue of 5 juvenile pike (Esox lucius). Cells grow at 4°C to 25°C with an optimum temperature of 20°C. PG cells are susceptible to various fish viruses including infectious pancreatic necosis viruses and pike fry rhabdovirus. The cell line has been mycoplasma eradicated at ECACC.

MEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO₂; 20°C Fish cell lines detach easily during transit if the culture is too young. After resuscitation split cells 1:3 to 1:4 and culture for at least one week wit
