Gene Information

human ... TCAP(8557)

General description

TCAP codes for a protein that binds to titin and acts as a substrate for titin kinase, thereby playing an important role in sarcomere assembly. Genetic mutations in Tcap have been linked to cardiomyopathies. Depletion of Tcap in zebrafish has been associated with muscular dystrophy.
Rabbit Anti-TCAP antibody recognizes bovine, canine, pig, human, mouse, and rat TCAP.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide directed towards the middle region of human TCAP

Application

Rabbit Anti-TCAP antibody is suitable for western blot applications at a concentration of 5μg/ml.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sarcomere assembly is regulated by the muscle protein titin. Titin is a giant elastic protein with kinase activity that extends half the length of a sarcomere. It serves as a scaffold to which myofibrils and other muscle related proteins are attached. TCAP is a protein found in striated and cardiac muscle that binds to the titin Z1-Z2 domains and is a substrate of titin kinase, interactions thought to be critical to sarcomere assembly. Mutations in TCAP gene are associated with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2G.Sarcomere assembly is regulated by the muscle protein titin. We sought to explore the relationship between a Tcap gene (TCAP) abnormality and cardiomyopathy. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) cause severe heart failure and sudden death. Recent genetic investigations have revealed that mutations of genes encoding Z-disc components

Tcap/telethonin encodes a Z-disc protein that plays important roles in sarcomere assembly, sarcomere-membrane interaction and stretch sensing. It remains unclear why mutations in Tcap lead to limb-girdle muscular dystrophy 2G (LGMD2G) in human patients. Here, we cloned tcap in zebrafish
