General description

Brij® L23, also known as Polyoxyethylene (23) lauryl ether, is an ethoxylated fatty alcohol derived from lauryl alcohol. It serves as a valuable non-ionic detergent widely utilized in biochemical studies. This versatile compound is particularly well-suited for protein solubilization and membrane protein isolation, making it a key component in various biochemical assays. Brij® L23′s non-ionic nature and unique properties also position it as an essential detergent for protein extraction and cell permeabilization, facilitating a broad spectrum of research in the same. Application

Brij® L23 solution has been used:
  • as a supplement of De Man, Rogosa, Sharpe (MRS) broth for monitoring bacteriocin production by lactic acid bacteria(66)
  • as a component of developing buffer for the incubation of zymogram gel for metalloproteinase quantification(67)
  • as a component of activation buffer for recombinant human hepsin(68)
