General description

Meropenem trihydrate (Meropenem) is a broad-spectrum carbapenem with antibacterial properties. It inhibits cell wall synthesis in both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.

Application

Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Meropenem has been used as a reference standard in an experiment conducted to investigate the effects on in vivo efficacy caused due to chemical differences in three generic products of meropenem.
Meropenem penetrates cell walls and binds to penicillin-binding protein targets. It acts against aerobes and anaerobes including E. coli, Klebsiella, Clostridium, Enterococcus sp. It is a common cause of mild transient aminotransferase elevations and can rarely result in clinically apparent, cholestatic liver injury.
Meropenem trihydrate is an ultra-broad spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Recent studies have demonstrated highly variable blood concentrations of piperacillin, tazobactam, cefepime, meropenem, ciprofloxacin and linezolid in critically ill patients with a high incidence of sub-therapeutic levels. Consequently, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of these antibiotics has to be considered, requiring
