General description

N-Nitrosoanabasine or NAB is a potent carcinogen and biomarker of exposure to cigarette smoke. It′s found in a variety of tobacco products including chewing tobacco and snuff. This Certified Spiking Solution® is suitable for use in LC-MS/MS or GC/MS methods for nicotine testing, environmental monitoring, or clinical and diagnostic testing of nicotine biomarkers.

Application

  • Inhibitory effects in toxicological studies: (S)-N-Nitrosoanabasine (NAB) has been used in research to investigate its inhibitory effects on the metabolism of the tobacco-specific nitrosamine, NNK, by cytochrome P450 2A13, highlighting its utility in carcinogenicity studies and its role as a research chemical in understanding biochemical pathways involved in cancer (Liu et al., 2016).

The aim of these studies was to determine the levels of carcinogenic tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNA) in Sudanese oral snuff (toombak) as recent retrospective epidemiological studies suggested an association between the use of toombak and subsequent development of oral cancer.

Tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNA) are among the most important and abundant strongly carcinogenic agents in unburned tobacco. It has been established that 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) induces lung tumors in rodents independent of the route of administration. Smokeless tobacco (ST) is known to adversely effect the oral mucosa, but knowledge about the influence on immune defence is limited. Few studies have investigated the effect of ST on the local immune response. In the present study, we have
