General description

Codeine is an opiate used for its analgesic, antitussive, and sedative properties and is the second-most predominant alkaloid in opium. This certified reference solution is suitable for use as a starting material in calibrators and controls for LC/MS and GC/MS testing methods in clinical toxicology, forensic analysis, pharmaceutical research, and pain prescription monitoring. As a widely popular recreational drug, codeine is regulated under various narcotic control laws in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Sweden, and the United States. Since opiates are classified as controlled substances, Cerilliant offers most opiate reference standards as DEA-exempt solutions for added convenience.

Codeine has been used medicinally since the 1800s as an analgesic and antitussive agent. Although very few studies have methodically examined the safety of codeine use in the pediatric age group, it is nonetheless commonly prescribed to children and breastfeeding
