General description
Recombinant, rat Ca2+/calmodulin kinase II α-subunit consisting of amino acids 1-325 (corresponding to monomeric α-subunit) expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells. CaM kinase II is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates a wide variety of intracellular proteins. Reportedly involved in the modulation of neurite growth by cAMP. Lower levels of CaM kinase II a-subunit predispose neurons to ischemic damage.

The epithelial brush border (BB) Na(+)/H(+) exchanger 3 (NHE3) accounts for most renal and intestinal Na(+) absorption. Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) inhibits NHE3 activity under basal conditions in intact intestine, acting in the BB, but the mechanism is unclear.
