General description

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) are phospholipids, that are ubiquitously present in the tissues of animals. The sn-1 and sn-2 position of PC has saturated and unsaturated fatty acids respectively. It can be produced through methylation pathway.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

21:0 PC has been used as a standard in linearity experiment to evaluate linearity response of the most abundant lipid classes. 21:0 PC may be used as an internal standard for the quantification of phospholipids (PLs). It may also be used as a phospholipid standard for the analysis of dried lipid extracts of S. meliloti in the positive-ionization mode.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) helps to block the penetrance of bacteria by acting as a surfactant in the mucus.

A shotgun lipidomics approach that allowed the analysis of eight lipid classes directly from crude extracts of the soil bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti is presented. Lipids, such as phosphoinositides (PIPs) and diacylglycerol (DAG), are important signaling intermediates involved in cellular processes such as T cell receptor (TCR)-mediated signal transduction. Here we report identification and quantification of PIP, PIP2 and DAG from crude lipid extracts. Capitalizing
