General description

Casein is a milk-derived substance routinely used in blocking buffers for Western, Southern and Northern Blot procedures. Blocking agents are used to reduce non-specific binding of detection reagents to the membranes.

Application

Suitable as a blocking Buffer for Western, Southern and Northern Blot membranes. Blocked membranes can then be used in either chemiluminescent, colorimetric, or DIG detection assays.

Features and Benefits

  • Better blocking performance than dried milk or BSA
  • Compatible with neutral and positively-charged membranes
  • Compatible with chemiluminescent, colorimetric , and DIG detection assays

Preparation Note

Dissolve entire contents of bottle in 800 mL molecular biology grade water. Stir until well mixed, then add water to final volume of 1L. Store at 2-8°C for up to one week.

Storage Class Code

11 - Combustible Solids
