General description

Fermtech® Yeast Extract is manufactured from selected strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is manufactured under controlled conditions to retain its vitamin content and other nutritive values, such as peptides, free amino acids, nucleic acids, minerals, trace elements, and phosphorous compounds. It is rich in vitamins and is often used to supply these factors in culture media at 0.3 - 0.5% concentration. It is produced through an auto-proteolytic reaction of Saccharomyces cells, resulting in a water-soluble peptone widely used as an ingredient of microbial culture media. Yeast extract provides a complete source of nutrients for microorganisms and is particularly useful for the cultivation of fastidious bacteria that require specific nutrients or additional growth factors. It can be used alone or in combination with other sources of nutrients, such as peptones or salts.

Application

Fermtech® Yeast Extract is commonly used as an ingredient in many microbial culture media for the growth and identification of bacteria, yeasts and molds from various pharmaceutical, environmental, food and beverage samples. It is designed as a low endotoxin peptone suitable for use in fermentation for the cultivation of a broad range of fastidious microorganisms and cell culture media.
