Compliance with US EPA Method 325B
The new US federal regulation 40 CFR Parts 60 and 63 – Petroleum Refinery Sector Risk and Technology Review and New Source Performance Standards, is an update to the previous version. It requires that the perimeter or fenceline of refineries are monitored for 14-day periods using passive sampling sorbent tubes at multiple locations for benzene and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Our goal is to bring you the science and performance inside the tube and provide the quality on the outside to help you achieve compliance with the ruling. We make the carbon adsorbents and pack the adsorbent tubes in-house with our adsorbent manufacturing. Tube packing and QC are located in suites next to each other, no other supplier has the same capability. If you perform the laboratory analysis, our GC Capillary Columns are manufactured right next door in another suite. Our R&D facilities and experts are also located onsite.
Quality You Can Trust on the Inside
Supelco is the world-leader in carbon adsorbent technology. We make our carbon adsorbents and deactivate our stainless steel TD tubes onsite. Each batch of Carbopack X is tested by our QC department prior to tube packing to ensure the adsorbent meets our quality specifications before we pack the tube. After packing, they are preconditioned and QC tested a second time to ensure that background level specifications are met before the product is approved. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is included in every box.
Supelcoat™ TD
Supelcoat is a new proprietary deactivation process that produces a ceramic-like protective coating to the metal surface. It covalently bonds to the stainless steel surfaces, which masks any imperfections or active sites that could be present on the surface. This treatment creates a smooth surface, is stable to <400 °C, and can withstand multiple uses (>1,000 cycles).
Confidence and Traceability from the Outside
Our stainless steel thermal desorption tube exteriors were designed with your needs at the forefront. They are easy-to-read and you know what adsorbents are in the inside simply by looking at the tube because we etch the tube names on to every tube. We eliminate any guesswork and confusion during sampling and return to the lab – you don’t have to count concentric rings to identify the tubes.
We also provide a durable barcode on our deactivated stainless steel thermal desorption tubes. No hassles with RFID tags or barcode readability after multiple conditioning cycles. Deactivated tubes are specially coated and treated, making readable barcode markings hard to achieve. We recommend you use an image-barcode reader, such as the Cognex® Dataman®8600 Hand Held Reader instrument (available from a dealer near you) instead of laser barcode readers (laser barcode readers are ineffective for reading barcodes with minimal contrast). You can be confident you deployed the proper sampling tube and have full chain of custody and traceability with our durable barcodes.
