General description
12:0 Diether PC (phosphocholine) is a glycerophospholipid having choline as the alcohol moiety, attached to the phosphate group. It has two dodecane chains attached to the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of the glycerol backbone by ether bonds.
Application
12:0 Diether PC or 1,2-di-O-dodecyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine might be used in small micelles to study the interaction of peptides with model membranes by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments.
Biochem/physiol Actions
12:0 Diether PC (phosphocholine) is useful in bicelles formation. Bicelles are suitable to be integrated into standard crystallization protocols and in contrast to micelles, bicelles maintain the protein in a more native bilayer environment allowing proteins to be captured in a more biologically relevant orientation. It is found to be a simpler membrane model and is highly compatible with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
