General description
Monkeypox virus (MPXV), like smallpox virus, belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus. Its morphology is consistent with that of orthopoxvirus, with a brick-shaped or oval shape with rounded corners and a size of 200~400nm. Brick-shaped or oval-shaped, covered by a lipoprotein membrane or envelope, with two protein-containing side bodies in the middle, and a thick membrane core containing a large double-stranded DNA gene body. The genome of Mpox virus is a double-stranded DNA, about 197kb long, and the end of the genome contains an identical but opposite terminal inverted repeat sequence. The virus contains 190 open reading frames, 4 of which are located in terminal inverted repeats. The core proteins of monkeypox virus are A29L, A35R, B6R, M1R, H3L.
