General description
The Reflectoquant® Ammonium test includes test strips and all necessary additional reagents and is suitable for determination potentially harmful pollution in surface and ground water, which are caused by ammonium compounds. Depending on the pH level ammonia is formed, which is a potent toxin for fish. In agriculture the Reflectoquant® test strips can be used to measure the ammonium nitrogen content of various types of manure and compost after sample preparation. Ammonium ions react with a chlorinating agent to form monochloramine. This in turn reacts with a phenol compound to form a blue indophenol derivative that is determined reflectometrically on the RQflex®. For pre-testing a sample in an economic and quick way to estimate the ammonium concentration and a possible dilution factor prior to using this quantitative method we recommend our semi-quantitative MQuant® test strips for ammonium. Further quantitative determination methods can be found with our Spectroquant® tests.
