Application

All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry.

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. These images and the collection of this vast data set can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. We also provide Prestige Antibodies® protocols and other useful information.

Biochem/physiol Actions

TAOK1 (thousand-and-one amino acid kinase 1) gene encodes a serine/threonine-protein kinase that phosphorylates MAP/ERK kinases (MEKs) 3 and 6 and activates p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase cascades. This protein is a member of the Sterile-20 or Ste20 family of kinases with an N-terminal kinase domain. It mediates the activation of p38 in response to genotoxic stress or DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation, ultraviolet radiation, and hydroxyurea. It lacks a microtubule-binding site and activates c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). It induces apoptotic morphological changes, such as cell contraction, membrane blebbing, and apoptotic body formation. It is also involved in the phosphorylation and cleavage of Rho kinase-1 (ROCK-I), which in turn induces TAOK1 to promote cell contraction and membrane blebbing.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

We have reported previously that human prostate-derived sterile 20-like kinase (PSK) 1 alters actin cytoskeletal organization and binds to microtubules, regulating their organization and stability. We have shown a structurally related protein kinase PSK2, which lacks a microtubule-binding site, activated

The TAO (for thousand-and-one amino acids) protein kinases activate p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase cascades in vitro and in cells by phosphorylating the MAP/ERK kinases (MEKs) 3 and 6. We found that TAO2 activity was increased by carbachol and that

Thousand and one amino acid (TAO) kinases are Ste20p-related MAP kinase kinase kinases (MAP3Ks) that activate p38 MAPK. Here we show that the TAO kinases mediate the activation of p38 in response to various genotoxic stimuli. TAO kinases are activated
