Advanced Cell Culture Technology

What Does it Cover?

More sophisticated cell models are developing as 3D cell culture technology becomes established and accepted as a means of creating more physiologically relevant cell-based assays. Methods that are relatively straightforward to use and that recreate the organized structure of real tissues will become valuable research tools for use in discovery, validation studies, and modelling disease. This webinar will review the alternative approaches available to researchers and provide an overview of their capabilities and example applications.

What Will You Learn?

Key areas covered:

  • 2D vs 3D cell culture debate
  • Review of alternative approaches and the development of new technologies
  • Challenges facing 3D culture methods, in terms of technologies available and methods used
  • Showcase applications where 3D technology makes a difference
  • Future perspective for 3D cell culture technology and further development

Who Should Attend?

  • Academic researchers who are studying advanced cell models.

Stefan Przyborski

Durham University UK

Stefan Przyborski holds an academic position as Professor in Cell Technology at Durham University. He has over 25 years of experience in cell biology with specific interests in cell culture technology, neuroscience and stem cell research. In recent years he has developed a multi-disciplinary approach to develop novel ways of solving biological problems. In regard to cell technology, he is involved with the research, development and commercialization of technology to enhance the environment in which cells are cultured, to improve their growth, differentiation and function. He is a recognized leader in the area of three dimensional (3D) cell culture and frequently contributes to inter/national meetings on this topic. His first degree in anatomy and cell biology still to this day underpins his strong belief in the fundamental principle of how the structure is related to function at the cell and tissue level. This is a critical aspect in cell culture where changes to cell shape radically impact cell behavior, which plays a major role in 3D cell culture.
