General description

Propofol, also known as Diprivan®, is a short-acting, hypnotic drug intravenously administered for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia and sedation. This internal standard is suitable for a variety of uses including forensic and forensic toxicology analysis, isotope dilution methods, calibrator preparation, and drug monitoring in plasma or whole blood.

Application

  • Propofol-D₁₇ in forensic analysis: Propofol-D₁₇ was utilized to confirm testimonial evidence in serial homicide cases through drug detection in decomposed cadavers, demonstrating its value in complex forensic scenarios (Ottaviano et al., 2021).

  • Pharmacokinetic studies with Propofol-D₁₇: A sensitive LC-APCI-MS/MS method was developed using Propofol-D₁₇ to quantify propofol in a bioequivalence study among healthy Chinese subjects, enhancing understanding of its pharmacokinetics (Tang et al., 2020).

  • Evaluation of analytical methods using Propofol-D₁₇: Comparative analysis of LC-MS/MS and GC-MS for propofol detection highlights Propofol-D₁₇′s role in improving analytical procedures for forensic and clinical toxicology (Vaiano et al., 2015).
