Gene Information
human ... IL22(50616)
General description
IL22 (interleukin 22) is a member of the IL10 related cytokine family, and this gene is localized to the human chromosome 12q15. This protein is predominantly produced by activated CD4+ T cells, and its target cells include mesangial, neuronal and hepatoma cell types. Recombinant human IL-22 is a 33.6 kDa non-disulfide-linked homodimeric protein containing of two 147 amino acid polypeptide chains.
Biochem/physiol Actions
IL22 (interleukin 22) is responsible for eliciting acute-phase responses including, anemia, weight loss, increase in platelet numbers, elevated serum amyloid A and fibrinogen levels and reduced levels serum albumin levels. During inflammation, this protein leads to an increase in pancreatitis-associated protein 1 (PAP1) and osteopontin in pancreatic acinar cells, which might either have protective or trophic effects. This protein is involved in the crosstalk between keratinocytes and inflammatory cells. It is linked with tumorigenesis and progression of tumors. 429 C/T polymorphism in this gene is linked with susceptibility to bladder cancer. In patients with recurrent pregnancy loss, the expression of IL22 is reduced in the uterine decidua, which might lead to disruption of decidual homeostasis, and hence, early loss of pregnancy.

Reconstitution
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.5-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.

The cytokine interleukin-22 (IL-22), which is produced by T cells and natural killer cells, is associated with tumorigenesis and tumor progression in cancers. However, the role of IL-22 in bladder cancer has not been investigated. A prospective hospital-based case-control study
