Application

A differential diagnostic agar for the detection of Salmonella in food and clinical material. A modification of the formulation described by Rambach (1990).

Preparation Note

Dissolve 29 g Salmonella Chromogen Agar and 1 vial Salmonella Chromogen Agar Supplement (Cat. No. 38589) in 1 litre distilled water. Boil and shake for 35-40 minutes to dissolve the medium completely. Do not autoclave or overheat. Cool the medium as fast as possible to 45-50°C and shake gently for a further 30 minutes or less. Pour into cool petri dishes.

Other Notes

Isolation and enumeration of salmonella from bivalves ; Evaluation for the differentiation of Salmonella species from other Enterobacteriaceae

Footnote

We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs.
The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.

A new agar medium for the differentiation of Salmonella spp. from other members of the family Enterobacteriaceae is described. This medium exploits a novel phenotypic characteristic of Salmonella spp.: the formation of acid from propylene glycol. This characteristic may be

Salmonella contamination is the second leading cause of food-borne illness worldwide. Controlling outbreaks of Salmonella is an important task for food regulators, restaurants and the food industry in general. The Salmonella family includes over 2,300 serotypes of bacteria, but two types, Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium, are responsible for about half of all human infections. Most outbreaks of Salmonella are traced back to dairy, poultry and meat products, but Salmonella can grow on nearly any food. Chicken, eggs and their derivative products are particularly high risk.

Our team of scientists has experience in all areas of research including Life Science, Material Science, Chemical Synthesis, Chromatography, Analytical and many others.
