General description

Collagen is a major component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and offers low immunogenicity, a porous structure, good permeability, and biocompatibility to promote cell viability, adhesion, spreading, proliferation and differentiation.

Low endotoxin maleimide functionalized collagen derived from ovine has many biomedical applications and is a great alternative to other naturally derived materials such as those derived from bovine or porcine. Maleimide conjugations are commonly used to generate covalent conjugates with sulfhydryl containing molecules. This thiol-maleimide click chemistry reaction is commonly used for bioconjugation given its reliability, efficiency, selectivity, and preferential chemical reaction at neutral pH. The PEGylated maleimide functionalization provides methods for easy bioconjugation while maintain the advantages of the naturally derived collagen.
