General description

Ethanol-2-13C is an isotopic labeled precursor of ethanol.

Application

Ethanol-2-13C have been used as an internal standard to quantify the formed 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS). It can be used for enzymatic oxidation and metabolic flux analyses.

We describe a novel method for the determination of the concentration and labeling degree of ethanol originating from 1-13C-labeling experiments. This method is suitable for high-throughput metabolic flux analysis because of the possible parallel sample preparation and fast final analysis

Articles

Sigma-Aldrich.com presents an article concerning MRI/MRS and the use of isotopes in hyperpolarization.

Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) is a phenomenon by which high spin polarization, typically derived from a bath of free radical electrons, is transferred to a nuclear spin bath, enhancing the difference between the nuclear energy levels and thereby producing dramatically enhanced NMR signals for detection.
