General description
Peroxynitrite (ONOO−) is a powerful oxidant formed by the collision of nitric oxide and superoxide.
Application
Peroxynitrite has been used to induce pericyte contraction in mouse brains. It has also been used for the preparation of positive control nitrated protein standards in immunohistochemical studies.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Peroxynitrite (ONOO−) exhibits bactericidal activity. It promotes cell death and contributes to the signal-transduction process, mitochondrial function, and apoptotic pathway. The formation of peroxynitrite has been associated with the development of various diseases including vascular diseases, ischemia-reperfusion injury, circulatory shock, inflammation, pain, and neurodegeneration.
Quality
Routinely evaluated by treating non-stimulated A431 cells.

There is growing evidence that oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) generates reactive oxygen and nitrogen species within mitochondria as unwanted byproducts that can damage OXPHOS enzymes with subsequent enhancement of free radical production. The accumulation of this oxidative damage to mitochondria in
