Our Sure/Seal System

As the leader in air-sensitive chemistry, we carry the largest breadth of anhydrous solvents and air-sensitive reagents to service the research market. In the late 1970’s, our Sure/Seal™ bottle was developed to protect our growing line of air-sensitive reagents from oxygen and moisture. Our Sure/Seal™ bottle not only maintains product integrity, but also facilitates the use of these products. While the crimp cap ensures an air-tight seal, the liner provides greater resealing qualities to further improve our Sure/Seal™ system.

To illustrate the effectiveness of our new Sure/Seal™ system, we evaluated it against another supplier (Competitor A) to see how each performed when tested for Oxygen Transmission (OTR), Moisture uptake and Liner Integrity after repetitive puncturing.

Performance Testing

Moisture Analysis

Testing Results (KF)

Karl Fischer utilizes a coulometric titration method to measure the rate of moisture uptake. To determine the effectiveness of the liner’s seals and closure designs, a five-week study was conducted using a dried 18g needle, triplicate sample sets from 100 mL bottles received four new punctures per liner each week (5 weeks total) throughout the test schedule for a total of 20 punctures per liner. At the end of each interval, the overcaps were secured by torquing the cap using a force of 40 in-lbs.

Other Test Solvents

* Virtually no change within testing variance. The initial water content was subtracted from successive testing values to normalize the concentration of water over time.

Comprehensive testing confirms the new Sure/Seal™ bottle outperforms other products on the market by maintaining low water absorption even after multiple punctures.

Linear Integrity

When using air-sensitive solvents and reagents, liners should not only seal to maintain product quality, but also consistently maintain form after repeated punctures.

Our new liner configuration was not prone to upwardly swelling nor did it show evidence of bowing. It was apparent that Competitor A’s liner demonstrated dramatic liner damage during the repetitive puncture testing in both the Toluene and n-Hexane (however significant water gain was not observed in n-Hexane) samples.

A measurement of the amount of O2 allowed to permeate into the bottle over a period of time. This test demonstrates the cap and liners ability to maintain an air-tight seal.
