General description

Synthetic, salmon calcitonin. A 32 amino acid residue peptide that is shown to stimulate bone formation and inhibit bone resorption. Has ability to cross mucous membranes. Has no significant effect on inositol phosphate accumulation.
Synthetic, salmon calcitonin. Calcitonin is a single-chain peptide hormone of 32 amino acid residues with a disulfide bridge between cysteines 1 and 7. It is produced in the parafollicular C cells of the thyroid gland and acts to stimulate bone formation by osteoblasts and inhibits bone resorption. Part of the effect of calcitonin appears to be mediated through increasing cAMP concentrations in osteoclasts. Has ability to cross mucus membranes. Has no significant effect on inositol phosphate accumulation.
