General description
E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme (UbcH5b), also called as ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2D2 (UBE2D2), belongs to the active class of E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzymes, which also includes UbcH5A and UbcH5C. UbcH5b structure contains four N-terminal α-helices followed by four-stranded antiparallel β-sheet.
Biochem/physiol Actions
E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme (UbcH5b) is a vital component of E3 complex SCFβ-TrCP and it plays an important role in phospho-IκBα ubiquitination. UbcH5b along with others members of active classes of E2 enzymes plays a vital role in degradation of many regulatory and abnormal proteins, including important human transcription factors, such as p53, nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and c-Fos.
