Gadolinium(III) chloride hexahydrate (GdCl3.6H2O) can be used as a metal precursor in applications such as dual mode MRI contrasting agents. It can also be used as a catalyst in the preparation of one-pot synthesis of α-amino nitriles via one pot three component reaction.
