General description

Magnesium oxide (MgO) has been reported as an industrially important high-temperature material. Lithium-doped magnesium oxide (Li/MgO) may be employed for the synthesis of ethylene and ethane from methane. It participates as a catalyst for the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide to epoxide. It plays the role of a catalyst during the reaction of carbon dioxide with (R)-styrene to afford (R)-phenyl carbonate.
Magnesium oxide can be used as a wide-band-gap insulator. It can undergo hydration to give magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles.

Application

Magnesium oxide (MgO) may be employed as a phase stabilizer during the fabrication of porous β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP).
